Job Description
The Opportunity
An iconic, long-established Australian business with a national footprint is seeking a Head of Finance to join its senior leadership team.
This is a senior, hands-on role reporting directly to an experienced CFO and responsible for running the day-to-day finance engine of the business. The organisation is asset-intensive, operationally complex and highly seasonal, requiring a finance leader who is practical, accountable and comfortable rolling their sleeves up.
This role will suit someone who enjoys ownership, autonomy and working closely with operations, rather than a heavily layered corporate environment.
The Role
The Head of Finance is the operational backbone of the finance function and will be responsible for:
- Monthly management reporting and variance analysis
- Month-end and year-end close processes
- Budgeting, forecasting and performance support
- Tax compliance including BAS, FBT and payroll tax
- Fixed asset management across a large national asset base
- Leadership of transactional finance including creditors and payroll
- Supporting commercial initiatives, projects and ad hoc analysis
- Acting as a trusted finance partner to operational leaders
This is not an ELT or CFO-designate role. It is a long-term, high-impact position focused on execution, rigour and operational excellence.
About You
- CA or CPA qualified
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance or Senior Finance Manager
- Background in asset-heavy or operational environments strongly preferred
- Comfortable working in a flat, fast-moving business
- Pragmatic, low ego and delivery-focused
- Willing to be present during peak operational periods including Christmas
Why This Role
- Direct access to an experienced CFO
- Genuine ownership of the finance engine
- Broad, interesting scope without bureaucracy
- Stable, long-term role in a well-established business
- Eastern Suburbs-based, hands-on leadership environment
On offer will be a salary package commensurate with your solid and relevant experience including a strong base and superannuation. Please call Ben Drougas on 0439 968 031 for a confidential conversation or click ‘apply now’ to forward your CV.
